The 'B1 St. Pieter' is a replica (1999) of an authentic Blankenberge barge that was used by Blankenberge fishermen for centuries. It is a flat-bottomed boat that landed on the beach after fishing. It was in service until the harbor was put into use in 1875. From the beginning of the 20th century, this type of fishing boat fell into disuse. The 'St. Pieter' has two masts and is more rigged.
The non-profit organization De Scute was founded in 1992 with the aim of contributing to the preservation of maritime heritage. They chose to do this through a very specific project, namely the reconstruction of the lost ship types that the fishermen of the Flemish coast used to use. Their first project was the construction of an authentic replica of a Blankenberge Barge: the 'B1 Sint-Pieter'.
