The Belgian Offshore Platform (BOP) is the association of investors and owners of offshore wind farms in the Belgian North Sea. BOP was founded in 2011 to advocate for the development of wind energy in the Belgian North Sea. Offshore wind farms currently represent an installed capacity of 2,262 MW in the Belgian North Sea.
They can generate an average of 8 TWh of green electricity per year, or about 10% of Belgium’s total electricity demand. The installed capacity can be tripled to 6 GW, enabling every Belgian household to be supplied with electricity from the North Sea.
Why invest in offshore wind energy?
Investing in renewable offshore wind energy is a “no-regret” solution for Belgium.
Today, Belgian offshore wind farms represent an installed capacity of 2,262 MW, generating 8 TWh of green electricity per year. This covers 10% of Belgium’s total electricity demand.
By investing in additional offshore capacity, we strengthen our energy independence, boost the economy, and move our country toward a greener future.
