Calypso

The "Calypso" is a Dehler Optima 98 AK built in 1979. Designed by E.G. van de Stadt is a sequel to the successful Optima 92. By providing it with an aft cabin with two (single) berths and a few additions (including recessed anti-slip), a larger luxury version was born.

The first optima 98 AK ships were built from 1979 on at the former van de Stadt yard in Zaandam (NL). As in many designs of this office, this model was innovative, especially in the (sometimes excessive) use of plastics. The interior is placed on an inner shell that also forms a stiffer and better insulated whole. Like the escape hatch, the genoa rails are sunk into the deck. The sailing characteristics are excellent due to the sharp hull shape, the fin keel and the balance rudder and the 15/16 rig. The "Calypso" has been renovated and modernized over the past 15 years with respect for the original components (navigation equipment and electronics). With the original motorization (Volvo Penta MD11C) and timeless design, the "Calypso" can often be seen on the North Sea off Ostend, Normandy and the Oosterschelde.
