The Lemsteraak “Amoras” is a 10.10 M. design by Skipshelling Blom in Hindeloopen and was built there in 1978. The client was H. van Vught and then gave her the name 'Agatha Marie'.
The Lemsteraak was developed in the second half of the 19th century from the fish barge that served for fishing on the Frisian inland waterways on the northern part of the then open Zuiderzee, between Lemmer and Den Helder. The barge was used for transport and storage of the fish, and was equipped with a (covered) bun on the foredeck, which could be up to 2.5 meters in size.
Because of its speed, the barge was also used to transport other (live) fish, mussel seed to Zeeland and mussels from Zeeland to Belgium (as far as Brussels). They were used early in the 19th century for the transport of live eels to London, where the barges even had their own berth, these barges were larger specimens. The main feature is that the volume of the bow is larger and higher than that of the stern.
When the fishing industry quickly declined, they were built, like the "Amoras", as yachts because the fishing industry quickly deteriorated after the closure of the Zuiderzee.
