The 'Caban' is a former German sea-going/police vessel built in 1968. Until 2001, this ship operated out of Bremerhaven as a police boat and for other support tasks under the name 'Bremen 4.' It was crewed by three people: a captain, a helmsman, and a technician. In 1986, it underwent a refit with new engines, steering, alarm systems, and more.
After its service, it was sold to a Dutch owner, after which the ship remained inactive in a harbor for 15 years with minimal maintenance. It was later acquired by a dealer specializing in such vessels, who restored it to operational condition and ensured it obtained the mandatory CVO certification.
The ship is equipped with two MWM main engines delivering 980 HP, limited to 670 HP at 2100 RPM. The fire pump is connected to a generator set providing 230V and 24V power. It is classified as a semi-planing vessel, with a cruising speed of approximately 14 knots and a top speed of 20 knots.
The hull is made of Corten steel, and the superstructure is fully riveted aluminum. Nearly all systems on the ship are redundantly installed to meet the seaworthiness standards set by the German government in 1968.
The current owners have had the 'Caban' since 2021 and have undertaken an extensive refit, now about 80% complete. This includes a fully new interior designed for recreation and (semi-)permanent living, as well as technical updates like electrical systems, navigation tools, cameras, and other security systems to enhance safety during operation.
