Outka

Outka, named after the Russian word for "duck," has called Ostend its home port since 1963. Built from Honduras mahogany by the Hots-De Koninck shipyard in Ostend, its hull was designed by French architect Amiet and then completed by the first owners, Captain and Mrs. Duwez. Mrs. Francine Duwez-de Brouwer, from a family of privateers and merchants, cherished the vessel after her husband's passing, undertaking annual journeys to the English and French coasts.

In 1994, Francine was honored as Maritime Lady of the Year, and she remained active on Outka until her passing. In 2000, the ship came into the hands of Captain Patrick Vermandel, a gift from his wife on their 25th wedding anniversary. With its recognition as Sailing Maritime Heritage in 2010, Outka carries a story of love and connection to the sea.
