Atalante

The 'Atalante' is a characterful motorsailer with ketch rigging of the Banjer 37 type, built in polyester and designed after the rugged lines of a North Sea trawler. The design is by the Dutchman Dick Lefeber, and from 1968 onward the vessel was built by Intermarine N.V. at the Eista yard in the Netherlands. The hull and superstructure were produced by Polyboats in Amsterdam (later Polymarin), fully in accordance with Lloyd’s specifications, with a minimum hull thickness of half an inch.

From 1972, the Banjer 37 was marketed in the United Kingdom by Stangate Marine, which operated its own yard in Littlehampton dedicated to this model and the related Rogger series. Around 1974, Stangate introduced the Banjer “Transoceanique,” featuring a 1.5‑metre bowsprit and a standard sail plan of 75 m². Production continued until 1979, even after construction in the Netherlands had ceased.

These robust pilothouse motorsailers are highly suitable for extended coastal cruising and have proven their seaworthiness on long passages. Today, Banjer 37 vessels can even be found as far away as Papua New Guinea, far from their original home waters.
