Courier

The Courier is a sailing monument, built in 1893 at the Mulder shipyard in Vierverlaten (Groningen), specifically designed for transporting cheese for the De Jong company in Hoorn. For many years, it transported cheese across the former Zuiderzee and roamed as a cargo ship for about 70 years through Dutch and Belgian waters.

It was used as a munitions ship during World War I and as a relief vessel during the North Sea Flood of 1953.

In 1989, the Courier, then in a severely neglected state, was purchased by Paul van ’t Net. With great dedication and craftsmanship, he fully restored the ship. The restoration took 5 years, returning the vessel as much as possible to its original condition and equipping it as a sailing ship for 12 passengers.
